On July 5th and 6th, 2014, the Seminar of English Education for Traditional Chinese Medicine in Advanced Medical Science, co-hosted by Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine International Exchange & Co-operation Centre (BTCMIECC) and the School of Humanities, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), was held in Beijing Guizhou Hotel. Over one hundred experts, scholars and foreign guests, from 17 China’s medical colleges and universities, attended the meeting.

    Zhai Shuangqing, Deputy Director of BUCM, and Pan Yue, Vice Head of BTCMIECC, gave keynotes on English Education and the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Significance of English Education in the International Exchange and Service Trades of Traditional Chinese Medicine, respectively. Dozens of English education experts from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and BUCM shared their insights on several issues, such as the teaching characteristics and English translation standardization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the TCM culture transmission, the situations and challenges faced by TCM translations and talents development.

    It is the first time for BTCMIECC and the BUCM School of Humanities to cooperate. The two institutions took English education as a springboard to explore the significance of TCM English education in the development of talents for international exchange. The seminar also attracted more attendances from China’s colleges and universities than ever.
