In the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake, the mountains and rivers wailed for lives and Chinese people gathered powers of all the society to face the ruthless natural disaster. After the earthquake, the State Council carried out counterpart support and reconstruction. Beijing and Shifu, which spanned more than 1,700 kilometers, held hands together and joined forces with each other. In the ten years, with the support of Beijing Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing TCM Association organized experts in the form of professional committees to provide accurate assistance, and arranged eight professional committees such as cardiovascular, respiratory, gastroenterology, oncology, and rheumatology to provide assistance. Dongfang Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has sent Yang Xiaohui, Li Quanwang, Zhang Xiaomei, Wu Hao, Zuo Minghuan, Hou Xiujuan, and Sun Tao and many other experts to actively participate in the medical assistance for Shifang TCM Hospital.
On May 12, Yang Xiaohui, deputy president of Dongfang Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, led Wang Baokui, director of the Nephrology Department, Li Quanwang, director of Oncology Department, and Zhang Xiaomei, chief physician of Respiratory Department and other experts went to Shifang again. Deputy President Yang Xiaohui conducted free clinics. Wang Fengkui, Li Quanwang, Zhang Xiaomei and other expert conducted consultations, ward rounds, and difficult case discussions. Due to the large number of outpatients, the specialists went to the outpatient clinic after the rounds. Dr. Yang’s Diabetes Professional Committee and Director Wang Kuikui’s Nephrology Committee established a workstation at Shifang TCM Hospital. Because of outstanding work, Director Li Quanwang and Chief physician Zhang Xiaomei were awarded the title of “Excellent Instructor for Instruction of Shifang TCM Hospital” by the Beijing TCM Association and were commended.
