Endometriosis TCM Chronic Disease Management Doctor-Patient Exchange
On August 5, 2019, the Endometriosis TCM Chronic Disease Management Doctor-Patient Exchange was successfully held at Guang'anmen Hospital. This exchange meeting is part of the capital health development key research project of “endometriosis TCM chronic disease management research”, which is undertaken by the gynaecology team of our hospital. It is a regular offline activity organized by the research team. The exchange is aimed to resolving the doubts of patients with endometriosis, helping patients establish the concept of TCM chronic disease management, and forming a bond of mutual concern and support between doctors and patients, thus rebuilding confidence and promoting rehabilitation. Zhao Ruihua Director of the gynecology department of our hospital, and Sun Weiwei Deputy Chief Physician, conducted the exchange with 19 patients with endometriosis.

Zhao Ruihua first introduced the research results of the gynaecology team in our hospital on the treatment of recurrence of endometriosis and infertility. Zhao Ruihua inherited the academic thought for the three-type distinguishing endometriosis treatment of the famous national-level TCM master Li Guangrong, and further consolidated the formation of "activating blood and relieving endometriosis". Several research projects under the support of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” and “Twelfth Five-Year” National Science and Technology Support Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China confirmed that the “Huoxuexiaoyi prescription” of Guang’anmen Hospital has a similar effect in inhibiting postoperative recurrence, compared with GnRH-a and can significantly relieve pain and improve pregnancy rate and live birth rate. As for the three major treatment difficulties of endometriosis: recurrence, pain and infertility, combined with domestic and international research progress and the research results of the team, Zhao Ruihua made the explanation and shared the relevant information with others, and at the same time she also proposed that the treatment of the disease requires the joint efforts and mutual cooperation of both doctors and patients.
In addition to popularizing the scientific knowledge of the disease, the exchange can help patients with psychological construction, thus better dealing with the disease and life problems.
The project of "Endometriosis TCM Chronic Disease Management Research" will recruit 1,000 patients with endometriosis to conduct TCM chronic disease management practice and evaluation. The research team has developed the APP for “Endometriosis Chronic Disease Management”. After the patients are enrolled, they can receive privately-tailored guidance on TCM diet, exercise, psychology and one-on-one Q&A services from the team doctors.
Patients Shared Relevant Information
The patients present shared their own medical experience, and expressed gratitude to Zhao Ruihua team for their treatment and scientific explanation. Many patients have experienced cumbersome and arduous treatments such as surgery, test tubes, and GnRH-a. When it comes to the point, they burst into tears, causing resonance among other patients present. Some patients mentioned that there were some doctors who said to them: "You suffer a cancer causing no death. You can have your pain relieved only when menopause arrives; when painkillers don’t work, you just have to endure it, or you can have the uterus cut." These words made them disheartened for a long time. After joining the endometriosis TCM chronic disease management team, they came to see the goals and hopes of life through TCM conditioning and their own life conditioning.
Some patients raised their own questions during the exchange, including the key points for physical adjustment in summer, the safety problems in long-term TCM treatment, the scope of people suitable for vaginal medicine and TCM enema, the heritability of endometriosis, the preferred choice of surgery or test tube in case of the capsule being over 5cm, and the way of passing menopause smoothly, Zhao Ruihua and her team doctors answered the questions one by one.
Roundtable Discussion Innovated the Doctor-Patient Linkage Model
After an hour and a half of communication, the exchange ended successfully in the applause of the patients. The exchange clarified their own questions for the patients, helped them establish a positive attitude to fight the disease, which also enabled doctors to better understand the needs of patients, thereby making the future treatment much more targeted. The exchange mode of such roundtable discussion between doctors and patients is an important way of practice for the endometriosis chronic disease management, which is also the embodiment and deepening of the harmonious and win-win relationship between doctors and patients in the new era. In the future, the Gynecology Department of Guang'anmen Hospital will continue to hold similar activities, thereby benefiting more doctors and patients.
