Li Ye, a cadre from Fengsheng Hospital, participates in free clinics for local police in Yushu, Qinghai Province

Flowers blossom in May in Beijing and many people are wearing summer clothes. However, the weather in Yushu is quite unpredictable and sunny weather can change rapidly into snow storms during the day. With the arrival of the May Day holiday, instead of visiting relatives and resting, the Beijing medical aid team held free clinics for the local armed police in Yushu. This showed the superb skills of orthopedics from the traditional Chinese medicine in Fengsheng Hospital. They received warm praise from local police officers and soldiers for their efforts.

In Yushu, within the armed police detachment, a soldier whose metacarpal bone was fractured hadn't received proper treatment after taking the X-ray in the hospital. By conducting manipulative rehabilitation, Dr. Li made cardboard splints from the materials available to treat the soldier. Further review from an X-ray showed such good alignment of the bones, which impressed the surrounding commanders and fighters!

On May 2 and 3, the medical team came to the free clinics for the armed police detachment of Zhiduo county and Qumalai county - two counties of toughest governance, where the altitude reached 4200 meters and the oxygen content was only 60% of that in open plains areas. Many soldiers had acute or chronic illnesses and there was a great demands for orthopaedic surgeons. Dr. Li gave full play to the advantages of "Fengsheng" orthopaedics that combined traditional Chinese and western medicine. By taking the traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, the treatment given to many soldiers has an immediate effect.

After giving a free diagnosis and learning that a child with distal radius fracture and secondary epiphysis injury was admitted to Yushu Hospital, due to the lack of experience of local doctors, patients should be recommended to go to Xining, 800 kilometers away, for medical treatment in case of this situation before, considering the patient's family situation, Dr. Li drove 10 hours back to the state hospital to complete the fracture repair and fixation for the patients, and then made case analysis and explanation to the department, so that the local Tibetan doctors could master the treatment of such fractures in future.

Over the following days, Dr. Li successively performed several operations on the calf, clavicle and femoral neck areas, among which the "calcaneal pry" operation was the first time this procedure had been performed in Yushu. Dr. Li has always cared about the patients, and had brought the local people the care and warmth of the party and the country in his every word and action. He implemented the original mission of a communist party member to contribute his own strength to help the Tibetan people to live a better life as soon as possible and achieve the victory in the fight against poverty in an all-round way.
