Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine completes critical aid mission

Four medical staff from Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine have just completed a medical aid mission in the city's Ditan Hospital. The missions of Zhang Wenwei, a radiologist, Lu Tong, a nurse in the Department of Oncology, and Meng Xianghui, a nurse in charge of the Cardiovascular Department, finally ended when they were discharged from quarantine. Yang Chunjiao, a medical examiner, was recovering from quarantine and was due to return to the team soon. On the morning of May 21, Wen Shulan, deputy secretary of the party committee, visited headquarters to welcome these valiant personnel, with department directors, secretaries of party branch and head nurses from some departments.

From March 18 the four medical personnel took care of those who were sick, drawing on their superb medical skills and tremendous compassion, and demonstrating the selfless and fearless spirit of Kuanjie TCM practitioners and making important contributions to winning the battle against COVID-19.

On March 18, Meng Xianghui and Lu Tong, two supervisory nurses, gave their support to Beijing Ditan Hospital. From when they arrived, they devoted themselves to taking care of those diagnosed with COVID-19. Meng resolved to stay until the end in working work with his colleagues to fight against the epidemic. Lu was no less determined and diligent in her work, in addition to daily nursing duties she was also responsible for collecting and atomizing nucleic acid test specimens, and providing psychological counseling to patients.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 all these medical personnel had volunteered to serve on the front lines in the fight against the epidemic, putting patients' interests above their own.

On March 20, Zhang Wenwei, a radiology technologist, and Yang Chunjiao, an examiner, joined the team to support Beijing Ditan Hospital. Zhang Wenwei was responsible for CT examinations of inpatients, patients needing re-examination, and those entering the country for screening. The work presented two serious risks, that posed by radiation and the other by viral infection. Zhang worked six hours a day without a break, and he was constantly drenched in sweat.

Yang Chunjiao worked diligently as a member of the nucleic acid testing team, about 80 specimens being tested in each shift. Over seven hours the procedures included classification, inactivation, nuclear collection and nucleic acid extraction and amplification. Yang was responsible for ensuring every report was accurate and done on time.

These personnel worked for more than 50 days and nights, and it is wonderful to see them back home safe and sound. We hail all of them for their unstinting and selfless dedication to duty.
