According to the instructions of the National Health Commission and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in order to further care for the nursing team and carry forward Nightingale' spirit, on May 11, 2020, Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine celebrated the festival both online and offline in both Dongcheng and Tongzhou areas of the hospital. The leaders of these two hospitals and each functional office, the head nurses and 13 nursing staff aiding in Wuhan attended the meeting. The event was hosted by Tian Runxi from the Nursing Department of Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing university of traditional Chinese medicine.
Ye Yongan, the secretary of the party committee of Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Director Wang Xian, gave a welcoming speech and extended festival greetings and sincere wishes to the nursing staff of the hospital. Secretary Ye Yongan said, he led medical aid team of Dongzhimen Hospital to Hubei Province and appreciated the fearless and responsibility of Dongzhimen nursing staff. He hoped that all the nursing staff in the hospital could make greater efforts to consolidate the results of the epidemic prevention and control. Director Wang Xian addressed, it was great comfort to see 13 fearless nurses from Dongzhimen Hospital returned safe and sound. In the future, we will continue to work hard to make our own contribution to the overall victory of COVID-19 prevention and control.
In the meeting, distinguished guests watched the promotional video for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the hospital and the nursing work of the two areas in the fight against the epidemic. The video reviewed the development of Dongzhimen Hospital nursing. Several generations of nursing staff inherited traditions, sought truth and benevolence, led the nursing team to combine nursing, teaching and research, made innovation through inheritance, development through and excellence through development, and achieved a first-class nursing team, and gradually stepped onto the international stage. The nursing team representatives also sent flowers and condolences to the older generation of nursing experts as the Nurses' Day approached. The year 2020, a year to commemorate the 200th birthday of nursing founder Florence Nightingale and the 109th Nurses' Day, was also a year that couldn't be forgotten. When the COVID-19 epidemic hit, the nurses from two areas of the Dongzhimen Hospital worked together to fight against the epidemic. They dressed in white and headed for the frontline heedless of their own safety, practicing Nightingale's professional spirit of protecting life, making sacrifices and loving without boundaries with practical actions.
After watching the video, hospital leaders presented flowers to 13 nursing staff and awarded the commemorative medal of aiding to Hubei Province. Chief Nurse Duan Yunshan of Dongcheng Hospital and Head Nurse Zhang Chunhua of Tongzhou Hospital delivered speeches as the representatives of the hospital.
"Do not give up", a sign language program of Tongzhou area and "Hero", a poetry reading program of Dongcheng area brought the celebration to an end.
On the occasion of the International Nurses Day, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that nursing was an important part of health services, and the whole society should understand and support nurses. Dongzhimen Hospital leadership also attached great importance to the nurses' day activities. Vice President Lin Qian, on behalf of the hospital leadership, sent flowers and blessings to all clinical departments and outpatient nursing staff.
