Nursing teaching is an extension of nursing work, a cornerstone to ensure nursing quality, and a necessary means to improve the overall quality of hospital nursing. In order to stimulate teaching enthusiasm, improve nursing teaching level, and promote scientific and standardized clinical nursing teaching, Beijing Shunyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine held the finals of the Selection of Nursing Teachers and Nursing Teaching Skills Competition on the afternoon of May 28.
The teaching competition, which took more than four months from preparation to conclusion, had been carried out steadily in the face of persistent covid-19 prevention and control. The teaching competition was divided into three parts: teaching plan design, operational skills and theoretical teaching. The operation skill competition took the form of scenario simulation, used standardized patients to restore the clinical scene, tested the clinical thinking and strain ability of nursing staff and nurse-patient communication ability based on humanistic care. On the theoretical teaching site, contestants used audio, video and other teaching approaches to make teaching PPT, and flexibly used blackboard writing and other auxiliary tools, so that the teaching features were prominent and the content was brilliant. After intense competition, according to quantitative scoring and comprehensive assessment, 17 nursing teachers at the hospital level were finally selected and ICU, orthopedics and traumatology department and hemodialysis room were selected as the excellent teaching departments.
The judges not only gave full affirmation to the competition, but also detailed analysis and pertinent suggestions on the shortcomings of teaching process, teaching reflection and other steps.
The teaching competition built a platform to show personal talents and also a platform to test nursing teaching ability of the hospital, which laid a foundation for comprehensively improving clinical teaching effect, strengthening clinical skills and cultivating excellent nursing teaching staff.
