The eye is an important organ to see the world and the window to everyone's heart. On June 6 this year, the 25th National Eye-Care Day, Daxing Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine launched a publicity campaign themed with "Controlling blood sugar, checking the fundus, preventing blindness caused by diabetes and scientific prevention and control of myopia lead to a bright future".
On the morning of June 4, Ma Xingxiang, the director of Ophthalmology Department of the hospital led a team to the Demao Jiayuan community of Daxing District, and gave a lecture on ophthalmic health knowledge to the community and answered questions on the spot.
Diabetic retinopathy, one of the common and serious complications for diabetic patients, is a severe blinding eye disease caused by retinal disease after a certain number of years of diabetes. In the early stage of diabetic retinopathy, most patients do not have any clinical symptoms, so no attention has been paid. Once it reaches an advance stage, severe vision loss can occur. Therefore, early screening, early diagnosis and early treatment are the three principles for the prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
Recommendations for screening retinopathy in China's diabetes clinical diagnosis and treatment guidelines:
1) Type 1 diabetes, emerging before or during puberty, may be screened at age 12. Once diagnosed, patients with post pubertal disease should be screened once a year.
2) Type 2 diabetes should be screened immediately after diagnosis, once a year.
3) Gestational diabetes emerges before pregnancy or during the first three months of pregnancy. If moderate diabetic non-proliferative retinopathy has been found, the patients should review once every 3 to 12 months. If severe non-proliferative retinopathy has been found, the patients should review once every 1 to 3 months.
The main method of fundus screening is the examination of fundus photographic. Non-mydriatic fundus photography is more suitable for people with diabetes early screening and periodic inspection of the patients with diabetic retinopathy. For patients with diabetic retinopathy Ⅲ period or above, fundus fluorescein angiography and OCT (optical coherence tomography) check can be operated to guide the treatment.
The treatment for fundus screening is controlling blood glucose to normal or near-normal level, which is beneficial to delay the progression of diabetic retinopathy. Meanwhile, it can be treated with drugs to improve the microcirculation of retina. For patients with diabetic retinopathy Ⅲ period or above, surgical treatment is required, such as laser photocoagulation, vitreous cavity injection and vitrectomy.
Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen eye protection, treat diabetic retinopathy correctly and give proper treatment in time. Let's care for diabetics and eye health together.
