Chinese medicine plays its role in anti-epidemic battlefield
The spring of 2020 was destined to be an extraordinary season. It was an important moment for medical workers to respond to the call of the Party and the country and carry forward the spirit of healing the wounded and rescuing the dying. It was also a critical moment for party members and cadres to charge ahead and accept the test.
Liu Qingquan, male, Han Nationality, born in 1965, joined the CPC in 1986, and now serves as the deputy secretary and the president of the Party Committee of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine affiliated to Capital Medical University. On January 21, 2020, he was ordered to Wuhan as an expert of the central guidance group and the deputy leader of the National TCM Medical Treatment Expert Group to participate the battle against Covid-19 in the frontline. He was responsible for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in Wuhan by combining Chinese medicine and western medicine, plan formulation, guidance and management, and worked for 81 consecutive days. Academicians Liu and Zhang Boli jointly undertook the clinical research of the emergency special project of the Ministry of Science and Technology -- integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine for the prevention and treatment of Covid-19. The total effective rate of traditional Chinese and western medicine reached over 90% through the use of three prescriptions and three medicines and other traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment. The more critical the situation is, the more we have to shoulder; the more dangerous and difficult the anti-epidemic battlefield is, the more we need to go forward. People who guide the country over a crisis and do good for others are great human beings. Liu Qingquan is a great medical worker.
Meet the old rival after 17 years
When the SARS epidemic broke out in Beijing in 2003, Liu Qingquan was the director of the emergency department of Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. He took the lead in treating patients and was unfortunately infected with SARS virus. However, he was not afraid of his own infection and saved himself on his own. He also worked with experts to make a plan for treating SARS by combining traditional Chinese and western medicine, making great contributions to winning the battle against SARS.
17 years later, Liu Qingquan is no longer the young director of the Emergency Department. He grew with white hair and more than 30 years of experience focusing on the clinical research of acute and severe diseases and respiratory diseases in Chinese medicine. Today, in the face of the old rival of Covid-19, Liu Qingquan's original intention remains unchanged, which is to give full play to the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, contain the epidemic and cure the patients.
Take the lead in Covid-19 fight in Hubei and draw up TCM diagnosis and treatment plan
When an epidemic breaks out, a command is issued. It is our responsibility to prevent and control it. On January 21, Liu Qingquan, appointed by the National Health Commission and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, rushed to Wuhan to provide TCM treatment for Covid-19. As the first director of the third-class TCM hospital, as soon as he arrived in Wuhan, he rushed to Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, Wuhan Hospital of Integrated Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, and then Wuhan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine...
Within a few days, Liu Qingquan consulted over a hundred patients successively. At the same time, he went to Anhui province as an inspector with the expert group appointed by the National Health Commission to inspect the Covid-19 patients and give TCM guidance. As the understanding of Covid-19 gradually became clear, he together with the panel members discussed and preliminarily formulated the first edition of "Syndrome Treatment Scheme on Covid-19 Patients", submitted it to National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, put it into "Covid-19 Diagnosis and Treatment Plan (the third trial edition)" published by the National Health Commission, laying a solid foundation for the extensive participation of TCM in the treatment of Covid-19 patients nationwide.
Go to Hubei twice and provide suggestions to optimize TCM diagnosis and treatment scheme
On January 27, Liu Qingquan, as a member of the expert group of the Central Guidance Group and the deputy leader of the National TCM medical treatment expert group, went to Hubei for the second time to supervise and guide the application of TCM in the treatment of Covid-19.
As a member of the national TCM expert group, it is necessary to provide the country with the most professional research, suggestions and countermeasures. During his stay in Wuhan, Liu Qingquan assisted Zhang Boli in giving suggestions personally to Vice Premier Sun Chunlan many times. Some Suggestions were adopted on the spot and quickly implemented. At the symposium on epidemic treatment hosted by Sun Chunlan, the member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the vice premier of the State Council, Liu Qingquan firstly proposed that Covid-19 patients should be classified into community, mild, moderate and severe according to the severity of the disease and we should adopt classification management. In addition, TCM was emphasized as the main force in the early stage.
Undertake emergency research results to promote clinical efficacy
At the same time, Academicians Liu and Zhang also jointly undertook the clinical research on the Covid-19 treatment by combining traditional Chinese and western medicine, a special emergency project of the Ministry of Science and Technology. According to the first version of the TCM treatment plan for Covid-19, Liu and his team have monitored the changes of the epidemic situation, constantly optimized the plan and determined the treatment rules.
On March 4, the "Covid-19 Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol (trial version 7)" was released, further clarifying the feasibility and practical efficacy of TCM diagnosis and treatment protocols. All over the country, integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment for Covid-19 patients has been carried out in a standardized manner, and satisfactory results have been achieved.
Helm the first TCM cabin hospital and face up to challenges bravely
Wuhan Jiangxia Cabin Hospital, the first cabin hospital taken over by the National Medical Team of traditional Chinese medicine, opened on February 14. Liu was appointed as the deputy secretary and the president of Jiangxia Cabin Hospital. Liu took the hospital as home from the preparation to opening of the cabin hospital. In the morning, he held a short conference, communicated and arranged various tasks; made the rounds of the wards, inquired pulse, treated each one specifically based on syndrome differentiation. In the afternoon, he rushed to hospitals with more severe patients, carried out TCM consultation and guided the treatment. In the evening, he returned to the cabin to see the patient. On March 10, with the last batch of patients out of the cabin and transferred to hospital, Jiangxia Cabin Hospital officially closed. Liu and his team successfully completed the historic task and cured a total of 395 patients. Then he devoted himself to the rehabilitation of discharged patients.
He spent 81 days on duty at the front line of the fight against Covid-19. He had several shirts, a coat, a pair of trousers and a pair of leather shoes, which were almost all of his luggage. Whenever relatives and colleagues in Beijing asked, he would always say: Guard the hospital, I am all right here, I don't need anything.
Build a strong fort to fight the epidemic and reflect the characteristics of caring for patients
As the deputy secretary of the provisional Party Committee of Jiangxia Cabin Hospital, Liu worked with the Party committee members to establish the community-level Party organization, and the provisional Party Committee set up five party branches. A sound party organization structure made all kinds of work simpler, work more orderly and people more united. At the same time, Jiangxia Cabin Hospital has also set up a special party building force, consisting of five Party groups in Dahuashan cabin community composed of infected Party members, which enabled patients to find support, feel warm, and have the confidence and determination to defeat the epidemic.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, TCM's participation in epidemic prevention and control has achieved initial success. Liu and countless Chinese and Western medical workers uphold the faith of "We won't return until the epidemic is over", and fought to the end, protecting Hubei and the motherland.
