The patient, male, 78-year-old, was wheeled into the Emergency Department by his family at 7 am. The patient was suffering from dyspnea with poor consciousness. The patient's family reflected that his suffocation had worsened for 1.5 hours this morning and he had nausea and vomiting for 4 days. Based on his rich clinical experience, He Hongjie, the deputy chief physician, realized that the patient was in a critical condition. After epidemiological investigation, he and the nurse on duty immediately placed the patient in the emergency room for treatment, gave electrocardiogram monitoring, oxygen inhalation, opened vein access, relieved asthma, achieved to spasmolysis, performed fluid expansion, and improved all laboratory tests.
At 7:20, the patient became agitated, and the blood pressure gradually dropped to 94/70mmhg, and the blood oxygen dropped to 87% under the state of oxygen inhalation. Wei Pengcao, the second-level attending physician, and Zhang Haijun, the third-level chief physician, were urgently required to jointly guide the rescue. Based on medical history of the patient, laboratory tests and rich clinical experience, they used the non-invasive ventilator to assist ventilation and anti-infection drug treatment, considering the postoperative infection of the patient with lung cancer. But the dyspnea of the patient constantly aggravated, blood pressure and blood oxygen continued to drop and threatened the life. Zhang Haijun, the director of the Respiratory Department, directed to get the patient intubated immediately.

Director Xu Yizhong of the Anesthesiology Department promptly got to the position, successfully completed endotracheal intubation, carried out assisted ventilation by invasive ventilator, the staff of the Radiology Department and Ultrasound Department were quickly in place with equipment to complete bedside examination. Eventually, the patient's vital signs gradually stabilized.
