Give each other the strength to walk together

In the fight against Covid-19, medical workers are constantly breaking through the limitations of treatment and the uncertainty of the epidemic, and patients are struggling to cope with the physical and mental damage caused by the disease. This is a reverse path that gives each other strength and hope.

  Preachy Group Leader

So far, all the team members have been sent to the isolation ward according to their shifts. The team members were competent for the current work intensity, and the rest time could be guaranteed basically. The weather was too hot, the team sweated badly and was easy to get dehydrated, so please ask the team members to drink water in time...Li Yudong is a young attending physician from Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As the leader and temporary league branch and the secretary of the medical team of Ditan Hospital, he would comb out the dynamics of the medical team and write work records every day when he returned to the station from the isolation ward of Ditan Hospital.

As a leader, there were no more than three aspects to be concerned about: the work, life and physical and mental health of the team members. Li Yudong said. The first time the team went to work, he would personally escort them to the ward; every day at work, after work and at lunch time, he would visit the team members and repeatedly stressed the need to do a good job of protection and hydration, eat and rest well... With the guidance and care of the nagging captain, the players could work with high morale and confidence every day.

Deep concern is behind the nagging. The magic power of Li Yudong's nagging had also impacted on the patient. He spent his time talking to patients, explaining to each patient how they were and how their treatment was going, and telling them that everything would be going to be fine. An elderly patient in the ward was very unstable and anxious, requiring daily nucleic acid tests. Li Yudong used acupoint massage method to help him ease the body discomfort, while chatting with him, and telling him that it would take some time to restore physical strength. After a few days of careful care, the elder man gradually regained confidence and his condition had been significantly improved.

  Our agreement

"Sometimes to cure, often to help, always to comfort." After entering into the Covid-19 isolation ward, I really understood the meaning of this sentence. Wen Bo is an attending physician in the medical team of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ditan Hospital. He is responsible for the treatment of confirmed patients in ward 5 and 7 of the Covid-19 isolation ward of Ditan Hospital. He is also responsible for the admission and treatment of new patients in ward 2 and 8 with Attending Physician Li Yudong.

During several rounds, the patients, a middle-aged couple, caught Wen's attention. They were diagnosed with Covid-19 at the same time and were admitted with symptoms of cough and sore throat. After 10 days of treatment, the situation of worsened condition with alternate remission occurred. The husband firstly had obvious symptoms of suffocating breath, then his wife began to suffocate chest tightness, accompanied by obvious anxiety. By communicating with the woman, Wen found that mood swings were the direct cause of her worsening condition. He thought of the theory of internal injury of seven emotions in Chinese medicine. Moderate emotional activity can regulate the body and mind, but excessive emotion will make the body in an unbalanced state and cause disease. Heart disease needs heart medicine. Wen Bo analysed two reasons for her worsening condition. One is the fear and unknown of Covid-19, and the other is the sudden increase of psychological stress caused by her husband's worsening condition. Wen Bo patiently persuaded and guided her to massage the Neiguan point to calm down and encouraged her husband to breathe in prone position to relieve dyspnea. Wen Bo's unremitting efforts obviously alleviated their illness. The couple gradually calmed down, and a long-lost smile appeared on their faces. They asked Wen Bo, "Doctor Wen, can we go to Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine after we are discharged. Would you please continue to help us recuperate our body?" Wen Bo humorously replied: Of course! But after you leave the hospital, you should cooperate to complete the sentinel isolation and review before you come to me!

In many cases, patients need additional psychological attention besides regular treatment. We should understand the needs of patients from their perspective, and enhance mutual trust through real communication, which is very important for the follow-up treatment. Wen Bo said when speaking of the treatment experience.

We are firmly moving forward in the face of the epidemic

At present, Wen Bo and Li Yudong, two TCM doctors, have started to try acupoint massage to relieve patients' symptoms. Referring to the "Covid-19 TCM Acupoint Massage Health Plan" of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine used by the medical team to assist Hubei in Wuhan ward, and according to the symptoms of patients in the isolated ward of Ditan Hospital, Li developed the "Covid-19 TCM Acupoint Massage Health Plan (version 2.0)" to provide unified training for the medical team members of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine to assist Hubei in Ditan Ward. In spite of the hot weather and the inconvenience of wearing protective clothing, the team members still overcame many difficulties to perform acupoint massage and guidance for patients. They specially made acupoint massage video for patients to learn and operate. Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine also sent ear acupressure pills to the medical team. With the development of these traditional Chinese medical techniques, symptoms such as cough, decreased smell and taste, abdominal distension, and decreased appetite had been significantly improved.

The technology of acupoint massage and auricular pressure pill has been strongly supported by colleagues in Ditan Hospital and has also won the recognition and praise of patients. We, doctors and patients work together, will have a satisfactory result! Facing the test of the epidemic, two young TCM doctors, Li Yudong and Wen Bo, are full of confidence.
