Recently, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly announced the establishment of the Committee on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) of the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association and the establishment of the Coordinating Committee on TCM intangible Cultural Heritage to strengthen guidance and support for the work of TCM intangible cultural Heritage. Liu Qingquan, the director of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, attended the meeting as a member of the committee and witnessed the historic moment.
Since its establishment, China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association had effectively organized experts and scholars in the field of intangible cultural heritage, and vigorously promoted the protection and development of national intangible cultural heritage projects based on the combination of inheritance, protection, utilization and development, making positive contributions to the protection, inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage. Traditional Chinese medicine is a great creation of the Chinese nation and an important field of national intangible cultural heritage protection. How to effectively protect and develop traditional Chinese medicine is an important responsibility and historical mission of the state, ethnic groups, experts and scholars of traditional Chinese medicine. Today, the establishment of the Chinese Medicine Council of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association is of great significance, which will promote the protection, inheritance, development, utilization of the heritage of traditional Chinese medicine, help to solve the difficulties and problems existing in the development of heritage work, contribute to the development of the heritage of traditional Chinese medicine, make contributions to healthy China and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
In history, the Chinese nation has been repeatedly hit by natural disasters, wars and plagues, yet it has been able to turn the tide one after another. Its population has grown and its civilization has been passed on. Traditional Chinese medicine has played an important role. At present, traditional Chinese medicine is showing more and more unique value and advantages for many problems and difficulties faced by human health. As the Covid-19 epidemic has spread, the CPC Central Committee attached great importance to the role of traditional Chinese medicine and the establishment of an integrated mechanism of Chinese medicine and western medicine. Professionals of TCM and integrated TCM had direct access to epidemic areas. TCM had treated over 91% of confirmed Covid-19 cases, with an overall effective rate of over 90%, and played an important role in improving the cure rate and reducing the mortality rate of Covid-19. Director Liu Qingquan, the representative of the expert team of the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is actively treating Covid-19 patients with the knowledge of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine. No matter in Wuhan, Beijing or Xinjiang, the team gave full play to the advantages and functions of traditional Chinese medicine and made outstanding contributions to the fight against Covid-19.
Beijing hospital of traditional Chinese medicine, the only first-class hospital of traditional Chinese medicine in Beijing, has been committed to inheritance, protection and development of traditional Chinese medicine; provide the highest quality TCM diagnosis and treatment service for the people of Beijing, the whole country and even all over the world; as well as play a bigger role in inheriting and carrying forward TCM culture and technique. In December 2018, the techniques of making black extract ointment, making uterus ingots, and making leftover egg butter for traditional Chinese medicine of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were successfully evaluated as the sixth batch of representative intangible cultural heritage projects in Dongcheng District, Beijing. These three techniques were being applied for the fifth batch of representative intangible cultural heritage projects in Beijing this year. In addition, the black cloth ointment of traditional Chinese medicine preparation and the nail word drug were also actively applied for the 7th batch of intangible cultural heritage representative projects in Dongcheng District.
It was believed that under the leadership of Director Liu Qingquan, the member of the Committee of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine would further promote the protection, inheritance, development and utilization of traditional Chinese medicine intangible cultural heritage, keep the integrity and innovation, inherit the essence, and carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese medicine culture of the hospital.
