The latest Blue Book on the inheritance and innovation of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been released: The per capita ownership of TCM medical resources in Beijing tops the list

Recently, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Social Sciences Academic Press jointly released the Blue Book on Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance and Innovation: Report on Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance and Innovation Development in China (2020), which evaluates the inheritance and innovation development level and competitiveness of traditional Chinese medicine in various provinces and cities from a multi-level and multi-dimensional perspective.

The blue Book selects 46 indicators from seven dimensions of TCM medical services, TCM industry, TCM health care, TCM education, TCM scientific research, TCM culture and foreign exchanges, and TCM policy, and establishes an evaluation index system for the inheritance, innovation and development of TCM. Based on the statistical data of TCM industry in 2018, a comprehensive evaluation and analysis method was adopted to comprehensively evaluate the development status of TCM enterprise at the provincial level. In addition, it also reviews the practice and effectiveness of TCM's deep involvement in fighting COVID-19, and summarizes artemisinin stories and typical cases of TCM hospital management in Guangdong Province.

According to the evaluation results, the average score of all provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China was 71.04 points, and only 13 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) were above the average score. The top five are Beijing, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Guangdong. Beijing, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province are the provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) with higher per capita TCM medical resources. Among them, the per capita ownership of TCM medical resources in Beijing has obvious advantages compared with other provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities). Although the per capita ownership of TCM medical resources in Shanghai is not high, in terms of TCM medical efficiency, Shanghai ranks among the top in China in terms of the per capita number of the visited TCM medical institutions, the number of visits per physician per day, the utilization rate of TCM hospital beds, and the average length of stay in TCM hospitals.
